COURAGE TO TRANSFORM

Enabling inner strength gives one the “courage to transform.”

At Harmony By Karate, “harmony” is achieved through deep breathing, philosophy and meditation. This helps the student develop a peaceful mind and nurtures spiritual growth. The “karate” aspect is the practice of simple, practical and fluid techniques that contribute to longevity. They are learned through slow movement that will ultimately maximize speed, power and flexibility. This demonstrates what is possible, eliminates fear, and empowers the individual to conquer any obstacle.

Karate techniques are learned through slow movement to maximize speed, power and flexibility, while philosophy and meditation are integrated to nurture spiritual growth.

To begin the journey, the prospective student meets the instructor for a one-on-one training session to determine eligibility for a 30-day evaluation. Upon completion, the student earns a uniform, and gains a newfound sense of accomplishment and motivation.

Integrated private and semi-private instruction for all ages.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE WEEK

The Philosophy Of The Week is a custom that is unique to the Harmony By Karate program. Based on the ancient Japanese traditions of philosophical dialogues between students and teachers, it was originally introduced to the dojo by Sensei John in 1994. Each week since then, Sensei John has offered his students an idea in the form of a simple quote or phrase. Students are expected to consider this idea and to be prepared to discuss their own ideas in class, both with Sensei, and with other students.

These discussions help create an attitude in the dojo of learning, personal growth, mutual respect, understanding, and tolerance of the views and ideas of others. This attitude distinguishes the Harmony By Karate dojo from almost all others. Sensei John uses the Philosophy Of The Week as a powerful tool to lead people out of their everyday frame of mind, giving the students a chance to reflect honestly about themselves, their environment, and their impact on the world around them. With this in mind, Sensei creates his philosophies to help students take a negative element from the past and turn it into a positive element for the future. He believes strongly that reversing negative thoughts and attitudes changes behavior, which, in turn, changes society.

“Your thoughts create your world.”

Live everyday with thoughts of your life, and of the world, as you would like to experience it. As your thoughts motivate your actions, and your actions influence others around you, this helps to make that life, and that world, a reality.

An Introduction From The Author

Sensei John

“This book is the product of twenty-nine years of martial arts training and even more years of existing on this earth. The philosophies contained herein I have developed through interactions with my Harmony By Karate family, my immediate family and friends, my greatest teachers, myself, and with the world at large. Some of them, I believe, are unique, while others you may have heard before–albeit perhaps in a different way–spoken by various spiritual masters. The Teachers have been repeating and restating many of the same truths for centuries, and if some of my statements echo past philosophers or spiritual guides, it is because I share a consciousness with them. As I have said, however, each philosophy in this book has come to me through my own very personal interactions and experiences as both a student and a teacher here in this life. My deep hope is that those who read and seriously consider the content of this book shall begin to bring themselves to a higher state of consciousness, inner peace, and enjoyment of this beautiful life.”
